Jobs will continue to be abundant in this field as more companies incorporate more technology and the Internet plays a bigger role in a business The news gets even better for computer science majors. There is an abundance of computer science scholarships available. The rapidly growing technology business often provides these scholarships as a way to help out the next wave of innovators, programmers and designers. Like most majors, colleges of computer science offer their own in-house scholarships. These awards vary in amount, but the real money in the world of computer science scholarships often lies outside the world of higher education. Hi-tech companies like Google, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett Packard provide computer science scholarships. Typically, these scholarships are available nationwide, but some business offer awards through local schools. A company may also financially support a local computer science program that routinely provides qualified interns and graduates. Microsoft, for example, gave out $500,000 in scholarships during the 2006-2007 school year. They have four basic types of computer science scholarships. They award general scholarships and scholarships for women, underrepresented minorities and students with disabilities. The bad news: You’ll be competing with students from across North America to get the money. There is an abundance of computer science scholarship opportunities for women. Women entering computer science can earn many of the awards created to encourage more women enter the field. Schools, private businesses and non-profit groups support these scholarships as part of a push to get more women majoring in math and science. If you are a young woman considering a computer science major in college then the scholarship money available may be the deciding factor.
